About the project

Turnkey development of an online store for the GARMIN brand, offering watches, navigators, accessories, as well as products for sports, tourism, and fitness.

Tasks

  • Develop an online store with a new design that follows the official style of the global Garmin.com online store.
  • Select an eCommerce solution based on CMS OpenCart.
  • Develop an extended product page layout—there are must several types of category and product page templates.
  • Develop ability to add dynamic content on pages.
  • Implement the addition of various types of product attributes/specifications.
  • Integrate with the 1C accounting system.
  • Implement “Payment in Installments” via PrivatBank to allow customers to purchase products on credit.
  • Add a “Notify Me When In Stock” button.

Challenges

The project was quite extensive in terms of both the number of products and the requirements we had to meet. The main challenge lay in preserving the official GARMIN brand style to the greatest extent possible, ensuring full alignment with the corporate identity of a company employing over 19,000 people in 35 countries worldwide. We thoroughly examined the elements of the official website, finalized the design, and then moved on to the technical implementation of the functionalities required by the client.

Another challenge was the development of various types of product pages—essentially going beyond simple landing pages for individual products.

Extended product card

An interesting requirement from our client was the ability to implement a customized product page. Instead of simply using a “template-based” approach, the client can populate products and also create entirely new pages with unique specifications and content layouts, effectively highlighting distinctive product features—such as Garmin’s new line of watches.

Catalogue

In the catalog, we implemented a convenient product display and filtering by various attributes, as well as the ability to add dynamic inserts to boost sales or showcase new products.

Additionally, users can quickly add items to their wishlist or compare products with one another.

Credit Module and Stock Availability Subscription

We implemented the option to pay for products on credit, allowing customers to purchase their desired items quickly and conveniently right from the product page, and then complete the checkout directly in the shopping cart.

Additionally, if a particular product model is out of stock, users can subscribe to receive a notification once it becomes available again.

Compatible Products

Store administrators can link compatible products to main items to boost sales. For instance, we implemented the option to display additional items that enhance the functionality of devices or include complementary accessories.

Order Placement and Checkout

We designed the checkout process to be step-by-step, enabling users to place orders in just a few clicks. Additionally, a convenient payment option was implemented through the credit module.

  • Added a Wishlist feature;
  • Implemented integration with the 1C accounting system;
  • Enabled the insertion of additional banner blocks in product categories;
  • Implemented the option to purchase products on credit;
  • Developed functionality for comparing products and adding them to the Wishlist;
  • Enabled the creation of customized product pages with unique content tailored to specific products.

The result of our work is a high-quality, responsive online store for the global manufacturer GARMIN, combining style and sophistication with convenient functionality for visitors.
