A Netherlands-based B2C company that sells furniture and home décor decided to create a 3D configurator for key products like tables and chairs. Alongside their offline showrooms, the team wants to make the online shopping experience just as personalized and interactive.

Project overview
- Build a custom Shopify app from scratch for the existing HelloChair store to integrate a 3D furniture configurator and let customers personalize products.
- Integrate existing 3D models of tables and chairs (provided by the AR team “Marevo”) into Shopify.
- Implement the configurator so users can choose color, material, finish, size, tabletop shape, edge profile, and table frame type.
- Set up step-by-step configuration with texture and color variations, showing changes in real time, including AR preview on the selected product.
- Enable custom table builds and auto-generate a corresponding Shopify product based on the chosen configuration.
- Configure APIs to create and update Shopify products according to user-selected parameters.
- Ensure seamless integration with existing filters, categories, and product descriptions on hellochair.nl.
Create your own dining table in 3D
The 3D configurator lets customers personalize furniture and automatically generates a new product in the app, then syncs it with the Shopify admin. That means shoppers can buy a custom table or chair, and the order appears correctly in the admin and in orders.
For the HelloChair project we partnered with AR/VR software development company Marevo, who handled AR visualization and built the configurator. Our team took care of the Shopify integration and setup: AR in Shopify, the configurator integration, and the Shopify app backend.
Project challenge
The main challenge was making sure products were created without duplication and without exceeding Shopify’s daily limits on the number of products and attributes. This way, the customer still gets a fully personalized product, while the store keeps stable performance and full control over its product database.

The AR product configurator makes it possible to visualize items in 2D, 3D, and augmented reality all within one platform. Brands integrate it into their websites to give customers a richer shopping experience through interactive 3D customization of products. The main goal of this AR configurator was to let customers choose a table they liked and adapt it to their individual needs.
